After using this software for a number of years, this year was quite disappointing. After printing, buying envelopes big enough, and driving over an hour to mail them, I now realize even more so how efiling would have been so much easier. That is if, and this is a huge if, HR Blocks servers were not down for most of the last 20 hours. On top of that, charging my credit card for services not rendered. Will be exploring my other options going into the next tax year. Would not recommend mainly due to uncertainty of efiling. Don't take the chance if you are close to the deadline.
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Terrible last minute system crash

I had the same problem thousands of other likely did.....could not file my taxes online using H&R Block's software due to "bad gateway" server issues and after repeated attempts throughout the day, ended up paying federal separately online in order to mail my federal return. I was preparing my state taxes through the KS webfile site and while my wife was preparing to run the federal return to the post office, I made one more attempt to file everything online and it went through. (although I chose the option to "Mail a check" for my federal payment since I had paid it online already) And in the end, I feel as though the user experience is average, but I keep using HR Block since I did the prior year for consistency....
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

BAD GATEWAY ERROR ON FILING ON TAX DAY

For the love of Mike, have some scalability or disaster recovery in place on tax day when thousands of users need to file with your software. I bought this premium product, as I have done for 10 years, to get schedule C and five free filings, and I had to resort to mailing returns because the gateway error persisted until near 5PM EST. Post offices close at 5PM near me, so I had no choice. I seriously should get a refund on this software for the ink, paper, certified postage, money order fees and time. What an epic fail on tax day. You've lost me as customer after 10 years. I'm done.

going from input forms to IRS is difficult

It should be trivial to go from input forms to where that input shows up in an IRS form and back again. e.g. double click a box and a popup asks if you want to bring up the other form. Instead, you have to click "i want a form" then click the form you want. You want a second form? then exit out of the form window and start over. Ick. *VERY* poorly designed.
*ALSO* your programmers did not handle an unexpected failure mode very well. Once your servers started bouncing returns with "bad gateway" errors, it was next to impossible to print the return without the "not for filing" stamp on every page. Come on! Do better.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Best Tax Software Ever Usedd

I have used this software for several years. It is always complete and the information accurate.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast

Does the job but oh the misery

Federal returns work pretty well. State returns (MN) really lack interview questions and make you do the work, especially for a business return. Today, April 15, the HRBlock servers have been down since last night so e-filing doesn't work. That's unacceptable. Worse yet, every time you try to resubmit the e-file, they're charging my credit card for the state e-file. Painful and frustrating.

All worked well except the charge for a 2nd state (PA) then a charge to file state. Easy enough to mail or use state online option.
The local wage tax was a nice add. Didn't see it last year.
I purchased Ibonds with my refund. Had to search out Form, no option from interview. It was a little painful toggling between the refund amount, 1st quarter estimate and the the Ibonds Form 8888 I think.
