I'm a retired CPA, using H&R Block instead of professional-level software for the first time. In general, the 1040 software and 1120-S software I used included all the features which I needed to generate correct returns. However, the exhaustive detailed question-answer format made the process much longer for me to use than I would have expected. After completing an 1120-S and filing an extension, when I went back to finish up and file the returns, the software would not load or update. I spent significant time on the phone with an agent who knew absolutely nothing about the software or what she was doing. In the end I had to go back to my prior professional program to run that return. So ... the process of fixing software which had glitched was pathetic and impossible.
I spent over 7 hours trying to get the software to open. Most of that time was trying to gdt someone on the phone the rest was the convoluted way they had to walk me through the procedure. After the initial issue was resolved we had to do it all over again when we received a microsoft update. Please make certain your software is compatible with microsoft.
Previous year was corrupted, I had to manually reenter everything. Program is confusing and navigation is extremely awkward. Error review wouldn't take you to where you actually needed to fix the underlying problem.
Does everything you need to do to file your taxes, with additional information available if you need it. Doing it at home gives you time to find more records by saving and returning when you are ready.
