I have had many issues; this year the trust program crashed frequently; the trust program couldn't find last year's files, requiring me to re-populate all of my personal and 1099 info (why stay with the same software year after year if there's no benefit from having prior year data?); and trust side state program I might as well do myself on paper, as there is minimal interview and no rules or instructions in the program. I think next year I go back to Turbo Tax.
Less expensive than the TurboTax equivalent and it works fine enough, but the interview is not as good. Ok for basic returns, but not that good for more complicated ones. And the help function when something goes wrong is pretty bad. For example, my return was rejected by IRS. H&R Block gave me a rejection code (meaningless string of numbers and letters) and the advice to go through and check out every page of my return to see if I can find any mistakes. That's all the help they offered.
The business side is literally the worst piece of software I have used. It would hang all the time, slow as molasses. Really it offered no help beyond just being an over complicated calculator. Oh, and forget trying to check for issues with the return - go make a cup of tea after you hit that button, because it is going to be a while. I should have just used the 1065 and done it by hand. The individual side was fine, but they all are.
I did not need the plus business. I will in the future so I wanted to check it out. Very useful tools and help when needed. I've been using this software for years.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
Relatively comprehensive, easy to use program. It served me well when self employed, as well as applying to my rental house. Good coverage for common investments. The program does not work well in reporting income from partnerships.
Experienced install issues this year, that I did not have in past years and it’s the business tax return,Unable to import last years return. Personal return was fine and did not experience an issues.
