I might as well have hired a CPA. THIS SOFTWARE does very little in the way of doing your taxes for you nor does it help you figure what you did wrong to get errors.
This software is very user friendly and thorough, making it relatively easy for a layperson to do tax preparation.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

once one retires and gets a tad older they have to start paying for delaying taxes with IRA. the search tool was rather frustrating in helping determine were and how to record Required minimum distributions RMD and even now i think i did the right thing
Fairly straightforward and I felt comfortable the software was updated, especially with filing changes due to COVID-19
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Fast

First time I used H&R Block software. I've been using Turbo Tax for 20 years but a change in my finances made me go another direction. One thing that I could never find or be prompted to do was to enter my wife's and my IRS Identity Protection Personal Identification Number. I thought it might come up when it was time to E-File but it never did. So, what's going to happen, my return will be rejected because no IP PIN was never inserted. This category needs to be fixed in future income tax software. If it is already there, why couldn't I find it? I used the Help page but that was a joke.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming
I would recommend this to a friend!

Not that happy this year

I used H&R Block software for many years and always had a good experience. For the first time, there was a lot of stuff that acted weird. Sometimes, drop-down menus didn't work, some forms didn't have interviews but when I tried to enter the data directly, it would not let me. And the worst is the Rentals and Royalties worksheet. I thought I would lose my mind. So all that needs improving. I don't know whether it is because of the new tax laws and you have not adapted your software yet, but I was much happier in previous years. I cannot recommend as is, but if it improves again next year, I will be happy to recommend.
The 1040 software should include a Net Operating Loss worksheet similar to Worksheet 1 of IRS Publication 536. If I had not created this myself on Excel, I would have paid $1300 more in taxes and miss out on a $500 refund from the state. The software is difficult to use for partnerships unless you have experience in partnership preparation.
