I’ve always used H&R since I started submitting my taxes at 18! But I was really frustrated this year. The software lacks basic functionality I’ve seen across many financial platforms. I work in fintech and this software is not stacking up to the rest.
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents

This year's software seems less useful than that of the last two decades. I spent a LOT of time trying to file for a tax extension because one K-1 won't come in until next month. I had to reenter data that should have been stored.

Confused as to the filing charges and Ohio Additions and Subtractions process.

I'd like to file my Colorado return electronically, but HRB doesn't support all the necessary forms. That's not entirely your fault, as Colorado requires some documentation that is not available to HRB. Still, paper filing and mailing is more inconvenient and inefficient. Also, my K-1s have various codes that are not in the HRB drop down menu. Finally, the charitable donation interview only supports a limited number of donations, so I had to combine some Goodwill donations that I made on different dates.
Cons: Hard to import documents

My opinion: Not perfect but darned good. The only flaw for me was my question on how and where to handle my QCD. The answer: it is a question asked during the interview for the 1099-R. But I had to wiggle that out for myself. Doing a search for QCD did NOT bring up any information on handling it. A chat with the TaxCut folks helped a bit but no answer. But finally I found it - adding the QCD to 1099-R is essential to getting the return done RIGHT.
