This software program is very difficult to use. The entry forms are very confusing and difficult to change your entries at a later time. The effects of changes are not readily noticeable. Error messages are too vague and do not provide guidance as to what needs to changed or what the effects of the changes will be. It also does not allow direct entry into forms. Overall it is very frustrating and time consuming to use.

I’ve been using this product for about 20 yrs. This year went more smoothly than recent years. There are useful warnings about foreign accounts and most complications are taken care of. Main complaint is that it would be useful to add warnings (i) about deductions not kicking in until a certain xx% of income is reached; (ii) when they are not going to count unless you itemize deductions, and (iii) that itemized deductions need to exceed $XX before they are worth bothering with vs. the standard deductions. I wasted time on a couple of these (theft loss, and charitable deductions) before discovering they didn’t count. Then the accuracy check finds corrections that must be made in those forms that actually dont matter at all because you took the standard deduction and had only filled the form out because you weren’t warned it was a waste of time.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming
