I've been using H&R B software for many years and have found the interface to be easy enough to accomplish the tax preparation task. Just the ability to import the 1099's for investments directly from the brokerage house makes it worth the cost but all the tools make the tax return prep do-able for the average person.
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
I would recommend this to a friend!

SO great I can download direct from brokerage but it missed the 1099-Misc that was part of the consolidated 1099- be nice if you could see what actually got posted instead of playing and seek with the sections- !099-Interest, 1099-B etc. I know it says to double check but the scattering makes it hard to be sure everything got picked up
Cons: Hard to import documents
I would recommend this to a friend!

Filing taxes is never fun. The H&R Block software was pretty easy to use. One frustrating sticking point was in the section on reporting excess IRA contributions and accumulations. The explanatory text was very confusing. It took me several minutes to read the instructions, enter data, re-read, and re-enter data (several times) to finally finish this section of the return.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming
