I have used HR Block Tax software since the 90's and it works well every year. Always a few things I think are a bit clunky and sometime difficult to interpret, but I have never been audited so it must be doing its job. This year I (fortunately) noticed one concerning bug - as I was preparing to e-file, I printed my fed and state returns as I always do to give them a quick look over. I noticed immediately that the printed forms had a different refund amount than what was on the display screen (both Fed and State). I assumed the forms were the correct answer and there was a bug with the display amount. I called HR Block support and even though there were no pending updates, after some discussion they told me to restart the tax software. I did and the display screen number did not change. The agent assured me that the forms were correct and the screen was incorrect. I proceeded and went back to the "prep to file" screen, which again prompted me to print my returns. Fortunately I printed them again and to my surprise the FORMS NOW AGREED WITH THE DISPLAY SCREEN! So the forms that would have been filed were actually what was incorrect! IMO, this is a serious bug that may have led to a rejection at both Fed and State levels or possibly even an audit. Fortunately I double and triple checked everything before hitting the "file" button. I am now a little skeptical of the purported accuracy of HR Block software. Also - in this very questionnaire, the following 2 sections are listed as optional, except that this form will not proceed without at least 1 selection be made ... so therefore NOT OPTIONAL. Normally I would give 4.5 stars but not this year - 3 stars! I hope this is not a trend.

This is my second year using H&R Block after abandoning TurboTax and I'm generally satisfied with it. Two improvements I would like to see to earn a five star rating: (1) make it easier to see what you did on last year's return while working on this year's, and (2) add the ability to create and save custom print jobs comprised of a custom defined set of forms. Printing the specific set of forms you want is just harder than it needs to be.

Easy import of last year data, straight forward logical questions to complete return, fairly painless and not too time consuming. Electronic filing and payment went smoothly.

I was happy with product it my federal taxes were accepted on February 13 and has not been processed yet.
