Many of the questions expect me to know what tax credits/exemptions/deductions I qualify for. If I knew this information I would not need a tax software. I used TurboTax for my 2023 return and felt there was a better attempt at guiding an uninformed user to credits/exemptions/deductions.

Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare

I've been using H&R Block software for several years and have been overall satisfied, but this year my taxes were more complicated and the H&R software did not always lead me in the right direction. In particular, the entries from K1s and military retirement income did not transfer to the Minnesota state income tax forms properly until I did it directly. Also, I wasn't offered a chance to choose state sales tax deduction on my federal forms until I went directly to the form involved. In short, had I not known enough to know there was something wrong with the outcome, I would have had a higher tax bill than was necessary.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
I would recommend this to a friend!
