I've used H&R Block's tax software (aka TaxCut) for several years and like it enough not to venture to a competitor, and it has slowly improved in it's user interrface. The user interface is simple enough, but it still lacks a fluidity that seems lacking. Also, I may discovered a glitch in doing an SEP contribution ... where the form was visible, and after entering an amount and seeing the reduced tax while in the form view, after I pressed Continue, the tax savings was less. I was confused as to why the form view shows one value but then Continuing shows a lesser tax reduction value.
Convenient, could be better. Large team of experts, I shouldn’t have to read IRS publications for complex situations. Sale of rental property didn’t guide correctly on accumulated depreciation that the software knew about from many years using it. Multiple state should know about state requirements to attach other state forms to resident state form.
With taxpayers purchasing the many products that qualify for tax credits; I think the user still has to drill down to far in the interview to get tax credit results. Good opportunity for AI to help locate?
I have been using this for several years and am happy with it. The only problem I have is the way the royalty section works. There is a section for a 1099 for natural gas royalty and later it has a question to show the royalty, which will double the amount to be taxed. Learned not to fill in that block. Only reason gave a 4 for ease of use.
Pros: Easy to prepare
I would recommend this to a friend!
