I have been using H&R Block tax software for over 10 years. Overall it works well, although there are some issues I find pesky and their online and telephone support is awful. The software is great for most people's needs and asks many questions to make sure you do not miss a deduction. You can upload W2s and brokerage records to save LOTS of time. However, every year I need to refer to other websites about how to report my "back door" Roth IRA contributions. They could easily include an explanation of this in the software but do not. Also, when you have questions, they refer you to the IRS website, but they could make it much easier by including a link to the particular IRS form. I have tried calling support many times, and the person you speak with typically does not seem conversant enough with the software to help you with anything. They type your question into a search engine and read you the answer. Really frustrating at a frustrating time. If H&R Block wanted to charge $5-10 more to be able to talk to a real tax accountant when you call I would happily pay this.
Overall I am satisfied but wish they would actually update the program to be better, not just to adopt tax code changes. The wording and appearance of the program have not changed in 5 years or more.

I am very frustrated with the state tax portion of the program. Your program incorrectly calculated my school district tax and it cost me a penalty.
Cons: Hard to prepare
