I've been using this software every year since at least 2004. It is easy to just import your basic information each year and then just add this years information.
I finally ditched TurboTax after more than twenty years. My OS no longer supported Turbo software. The transition to H&R Block was smooth and intuitive yet not overly simple. Too often TurboTax will be so obscure that you are not aware what you are doing. H&R is tax software for adults who want to know what they are doing.
I switched from Turbo Tax to H&R Block about 8 years ago. Overall, I like HRB and it beats the alternatives. Still, I would like to see a few changes: * The questions in the interview can be unclear/confusing. * It is not possible to use the product for even basic tax planning for the following year. * The method of use should be changed to inputting every document before the interview starts. But it is a better product than the alternatives.
The software is fairly easy to follow. To effectively use the state additions, you will need greater familiarity with the state rules. Sadly, you can't prepare returns for all the members of your family as it will not allow you to electronically file more than five returns.
I like that it’s more affordable that some that may be more user-friendly, but each year it surprises me with “errors” that appear at the filing stage out of nowhere and are challenging to understand and address. But so far I’ve been able to figure them out and complete everything. Also, there is usually at least (1) unexplained glitch along the way that requires extra attention and repetitive entries. I’ve been using this same software for at least (10) years, and it’s been tricky from the start. Thankfully I have a background in bookkeeping which helps.
I have used this for a number of years. I switched from a competitors product because it was not accurate and not up to date. HR block has been consistent and reliable
