I have used H and R tax for several years. I have been really happy in the past, but this year the program was doing a lot of unusual things. It even changed the amount of refund after I had hit the send key. All throughout the taxes it was doing things that made me not trust the program.
Pros: Easy to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The software is easy to use. I had slight problems importing my 2022 taxes to help with the 2023 filing. I wanted to file early in March but had to wait due to software updates and additional forms not readily available.

The program is cumbersome in getting to certain places to enter or fix things. It is frustrating to use the link to enter something only to find you need to scroll through pages and pages of that section to finally find (or not find) what you are looking for. Through talking with support, they can tell me where things are, but not always the proper details. Having worked in the tax field since way before the computer age, between talking with support and trying things while on the phone, I can usually figure out how to find what I need to get an accurate return.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great software with one minor flaw. Software does not allow you to attach the qualified business statement which, requires a signature. The software fails to explain how to attach the document.

I have used Tax Cut for more than 10 years. It had been fine in the past as I got used to its questionnaire-way of preparing tax returns. But this time for 2023 tax returns, I couldn't e-file it on 4/14 for whatever strange reasons. So the next day, the deadline, I had to print out my tax returns to file them manually by going to the post office in person to use certified mail which was extremely inconvenient. On 4/20 since I wondered if H&R Block had fixed its e-filing issues, I tried to e-file again, and surprisingly my tax returns went through. I don't know if it will cause issues because I had already mailed in my tax returns by 4/15. But my tax returns were e-filed on 4/20 that might be considered filing late because I didn't file extensions o 4/15 (I couldn't because Tax Cut had e-filing issues.) I may have to consider other software as I do not want the same issues happen again for the 2024 tax returns. The whole purpose of spending money to buy the tax software is to be able to e-file conveniently. But if I couldn't even file on time, why would I buy it? Will explore other possibilities. H&R Block may be focusing on people filing online at its website, that may be why they didn't care enough about their download software properly to have the e-filing problems.

Cons: Time consuming
