At 86 years of age with help of my wife I can still get through the process. I need to occasionally go back and look-up and review certain tax terminology and such. Good program. Been doing it now for about 30 years, look forward to the next 30.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Time consuming
I would recommend this to a friend!

Return was rejected because of a problem with H&R's e-file process. Even after downloading latest update, the IRS once again rejected my return. Very unhappy with the product this year. Don't recommend.
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I've used Turbo Tax for 20+ years, but when I tried to use the 2022 tax year software, I had big problems, mostly due to inporting from my investment company. I finall gave up on Turbo Tax and downloaded H&R Block software. Had no problems. User friendly. I've already filed. I am so glad I changed. I'll be back next year for sure.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents
I would recommend this to a friend!

2022 PREMIUM (MAC) STATE SOFTWARE ISSUES
on March 4, 2023

FOUND A COUPLE OF STATE SOFTWARE BUGS (COLORADO, NEBRASKA). (1) MY NEBRASKA RETURN REQUIRED A PDF ATTACHMENT. AFTER HITTING THE SEND KEY TO TRANSMIT DID NOT GET A PROMPT FOR AN ATTACHMENT. ATTACHMENT FUNCTIONALITY IS POOR OR NON-EXISTENT. (2) STATE SOFTWARE IS NOT PRINTING (OR CREATING) THE STATE PAYMENT VOUCHERS WHEN TAXES ARE OWED. WILL BE LOOKING AT TURBO TAX SOFTWARE FOR NEXT YEAR.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Being able to import your 1099 is awesome. Being required to check each individual buy/sell transaction on a huge 1099-B pretty much defeats the purpose of importing, but I get it. However, the software requires you to inspect each transaction by clicking "edit" on a button that is on the opposite side of the form from the little exclamation point that tells you what you need to check (which on a long list, can make tracking difficult and wasted "inspections" likely; furthermore, the edit button is right next to the delete button (so a tiny shift while you're looking for the exclamation point can lead to very undesirable results. This is just a BAD design - did NO ONE from human engineering look at this before you went live? The edit button should be right next to the exclamation point, on the opposite side of the form from the delete button. But even worse is that after you have gone through the "edit" process and click next, the software brings you back to the TOP of the list of things to check (not to where you left off). Being required to manually navigate back down to where you left off each time is frustrating and time-consuming, especially for 1099Bs with 400-500 transactions. Aside from this really awful design, the "instructions" the software provides when it does not support something is confusing and often conflicts with IRS instructions.
All that said, for straightforward, easy returns, the software is fine. Thing is, I don't think people by "premium" if they have a straightforward, easy return.
