Good enough

Simple enough. Inputs were well laid out, I understood the process the app was going through.
I was missing a 1099R from and tried to wing it. App should say "If you have online access to your account GO DOWNLOAD THE FORM." I could have but didn't think about it, and didn't realize for IRA withdrawals you had better input the type (question 6). Not having the 1099R the app categorized it as early withdrawal penalty. I didn't hit that penalty until the end, at which point what I owed seemingly inexplicably leapt about 50%. I had to go digging through the forms to find Schedule 2, something I don't recall seeing before, with about the amount of the jump in owed. Realized to go download the 1099R, which had the entry for type, which I picked and voila jump was gone. But too much stress and panic for an error I could have handled better, had the app provided a gentle suggestion.

Did not autobackup my return

Created the return in April. Finished and mailed in the return in August. Opened the program in November to look at my return and the only return I find is the one that was Created the return in April with no income data. Finished the return in August but now I can't find the pdf or any files created after April 2022. I'm almost positive I backed it up but apparently the program did not do an auto backup. I know I mailed the return because the IRS wants more info. AAAARGH, THANKS HR BLOCK FOR MAKING YOUR PROGRAM WORSE EVERY YEAR. FOR

I’ve used H&R Block software for years and have always been pleased. Some of the explanations of sections aren’t as “explanatory” as they could be. Some are hard to understand or don’t go into enough detail.

CANNOT PRINT OFF PROPERLY

I filed for both my son and myself. When I try to print I only get about 1/4 of the page in huge letters. I've tried from the app and from my saved pdf. Both turn out the same.I need copies for my files and this is useless for that purpose. The quality for preparation is great, but if I cannot get a copy, it is disturbing. I need a copy for my student loans and my refinance on my house. I also found nowhere to enter my PMI on my mortgage.

I have filed both this return for my son and my return and neither of them print off normally. Huge print and only a partial page. I need them for my records, but they are useless. I have tried everything with my printer to fix the problem, but they show up both on the app and in my saved file the same way.

This year's version seemed buggier than usual

It took multiple tries to install a federal update at one point, the program crashed a couple of times, and it took three tries to submit my returns electronically when I was done with them. (I had to cycle through three different wi-fi connections and "We're having trouble making a connection between your software and our server" errors before the returns were submitted.) Also, I wasn't able to use a two-word city name in one field. But other than those complaints, the software worked well and continues to be pretty intuitive as it walks you through the forms and returns, and the way it imports data from previous years is very helpful.
Pros: Easy to prepare
I would recommend this to a friend!
