The H&R version for self-employed folks is easy to work with and is much less expensive than the competitor's. It does everything I need and makes the job as easy as it can be. I used to use TaxAct, but they overpriced themselves. I will stick with H&R. I fully recommend this product.
I have been using this software for years, going back to when it was called TaxCut. It is easy to use in that the questions are simply worded and it imports from any investment company out there. The Premium edition works extremely well for rental properties. Saving and printing options are very easy to manage as well.
As a retired EA, the software is nowhere near as sophisticated as what I used to use, but for my current needs it's very good. The only disappointment was when I prepared my granddaughter's return. She is in college in CO, had a part-time job there and had to file a CO return to recover the state tax withheld. The software prepared the return well, but I discovered that state returns aren't covered in the 5 free efiles, so I had to pay a fee to get her a minimal refund. The fee was almost as much as her refund, but I paid it....that's what grandparents do.
Paid for the software so I could electronically file and get refund faster. What a waste of money!!! I received the ACA TAX CREDIT and was not informed upfront of all the additional steps and mail in paperwork to the irs. Still waiting on my refund and it’s been 3 months!!!!!!!!!!!
