I have used this product for several years. The interview covers about 98% of required tax information. However, it seems as though there are always one or two items on which I have to make a manual entry. I'm familiar with taxes, so it's okay for me but some people might struggle.
Generally easy to use. Could be made more clear on whether W2 withheld childcare expenses need to be re-entered in childcare expense section or not. I also got lost on how to get to the print state taxes after completing but closing and reopening. Ended up submitting Federal to get to the state printing section.
Obviously, the problems I have with H&R Block programs are noticed by others and H&R Block always seems to correct them without me having to do anything to bring it to their attention. They seem to be very aware of their customer's problems.
After having used a competitor's tax preparation program for the better part of a decade (and, for the most part, being extremely satisfied with it), I had to find another solution a couple of years ago due to the competitor's inability to handle a non-SE 1099-Misc form. Thankfully, H&R Block software can handle this situation; however, I have found it to be lacking in other areas, such as projecting estimated tax payments for SE individuals. It is also *severely* lacking in state integration.
The tax program itself works well but it is the superficial stuff that is a problem. On a Mac, if you hit the save button, nothing happens. You have to go to the Mac header to actually save the return. Also, I tried to electronically file, but the return was rejected. It said I had to enter the prior year AGI. But there was no screen that allowed me to enter that number.
Since beginning to use H&R Block Taxcut software 15 years ago, my taxes have been consistently easier to do. I use the deluxe version which includes sections for rental properties (Schedule E) and sole proprietor businesses (Schedule C). Since the software can easily access past information from my previous filings it makes it simpler to complete the current return. Its quite possibly the easiest tax software I have used. Thanks H&R Block
