H&R Block Premium software is the easiest way for a sole proprietor business owner to file their taxes online. It’s a simple question and answer format, which you click through to the end. If for some reason you need to stop or pause in the middle, you can save it and come back later. There are help menus and links to the IRS, in the program. You only need to fill in your information once for both federal & state, because it flows through from the federal to state, though you need to go through the state part to make sure everything has been included, as sometimes states give credits that the feds don’t. Once e-filed, you get a quick response back as whether your return has been accepted or not. If not, you’ll be told what’s wrong, so it can be fixed and resent.

Although I still found the rentals/royalties combination to be confusing, after several years of using H&R Block software I figured out to enter the information correctly. Otherwise simple and straightforward. Love the fact that the software fills out various schedules for me!

Seemed rough this year

I bought this last august, I found it more difficult to use this year, My return was very similar to last years. But I found myself having to pause and look up several items outside of this plan. To get correct answers.
Although all the forms are included, unordinary items take additional research, outside of the software, to figure out. We had a complicated year, and I am still not sure my return is correct. So much so that I plan to go to a tax professional to have her review it, as well as past years.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

No question: Despite trying to do my own taxes (both small business and personal), I cannot approach the accuracy I achieve by using H&R Block software. There is always a right way to get to the right answer. If the instructions are not clear in any case, I'll say it's because it's exceedingly difficult to clearly instruct all parts of a population with highly variable understanding of tax concepts. Taxes are complex; tax software makes it simpler, but remains complex.
That said, I typically attempt my taxes on my own before loading the tax program. In my experience, it is valuable to be meticulous and careful in operating this software. A missed field or an unknowing answer to a question can send the program to entirely unexpected results. The results are always correct for what I really told the program, but sometimes I tell it wrong and don't know how to tell it correctly.
That gave me opportunity to test out their chat support. Pleasant people. Knowledgeable for first-tier customer service. Referred me to second tier a couple times. Quite knowledgeable there. Solved every problem. Honest and helpful.
Hint: You're more likely to get top quality support if they understand you're trying to operate the software as intended. Maybe, phrase the question, "How can answer interview questions so as to see the answer on Line xxx? I tried, but I don't see the information where I expect it to be."
I found two things unexpected. First, the software seemed to tell me it computed my tax with the Schedule D Tax Worksheet; it should have used the Qualified Dividends and Capital Gain Worksheet. I think it computed my tax correctly and I suspect that's because somebody smart designed the software to handle both worksheets. It just looked unexpected.
Second, the software reported in one place that Nebraskans can deduct a maximum of $5,000 joint/$2,500 separately for contributions to the state 529 college savings plan. That's a bit outdated. $10,000/$5,000. But I didn't contribute, so it didn't affect me.
Valuable augmentation: There's a capability to "Jump to Related" from an unexpected value in a form field. It'd be great it more of those worked well. I could do more of my own troubleshooting.
Overall: Reasonable price. Great product. Excellent support. Accurate results. Seems like a winning combination!
