I had my CPA calculate my 2017 household return, and her calculation matched the H&R Block software return calculation. The HRB software is 80% cheaper. I'll continue to use the CPA for my business, but I'm using HRB for my personal taxes!
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
I have been using the H&R Block software for a decade now and have noted that the tax law explanations are getting shorter and more confusing. I would rather read more and have better examples than have a short, quick read explanation that is too simple and leaves more questions. Also, HRB could help EVERYONE who buys their tax preparation software and then provide the COST information when the "tax preparation fee" question comes up in the interview process! That would be HUGE help to ALL of us who have bought their product on line. That isn't a rocket science issue and should be an easy fix going forward.
I have been using HR Block Premium for several years for my self-employed business. I would have liked to have more certainty with my year-end tax planning with up-to-date software that includes the qualified income deduction for self-employed/pass-through entities. The software makes no attempt to incorporate this aspect of the Tax Relief Act. There is no need to wait for IRS return forms to provide for this deduction in the software.
Tried to set up "My Block" account but it refused to "recognize" my User Name/pass word. But it would not say why.
I've always been leery of putting my info into the cloud but my son said to do it. I was going to try to save my return this year but your program would not accept me. It will not accept either a password or a username or both.
I filed both federal and state but only the federal got transmitted and filed. The state return was transmitted but still in pending status 10 months later.
