Have used it for many years, and has gotten better, but for every improvement there has been a takeaway, like form 4136 fuel tax credit used to be available on even the basic edition, but not supported on even the Premium version now.
Cons: Hard to fix issues
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to prepare, Easy to import
First time I've used the product for processing an amended return. Though the start of the process for creating an amended return is a little unintuitive, the software DOES actually produce both federal (1040X) AND state amended returns. In addition, specific instructions for transmittal of each amended return is provided and are very clear.
On some topics, the software did not provide step-by-step instructions in the interview. Instead, I was referred to the IRS instructions. These instructions are difficult to understand. I am very disappointed.
Between my wife and I we have three businesses (all sole proprietorships). Ohio tax law keeps changing. For the Feds we have asset depreciation that runs from year to year. I have capital losses that are being parceled out over several years. This software keeps good tract of all of that.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund
Terrible treatment of potential problems at end of review. Should auto route to location instead of making you find it! Terrible state tax treatment of K-1 income. Terrible tax treatment for stock sales reported on K-1 forms. On AL state asked for entry of State Drive License info 4 times. Double entry in beginning. Total reentry before e-file allowed.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to fix issues, Hard to prepare
