Easy to Use

The easiest we've EVER filled. All we had to do was answer questions and enter information. This method of doing taxes paid for itself. The only noticeable drawback was that I had to "play" with filing status to maximize our refund.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund
I would recommend this to a friend!

Maybe user error, but it double charged for my state return when it didn't accept the first code. Please update and make it easier for any user errors, if code was inputted incorrectly. Thank you
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
I would recommend this to a friend!

I've used H&R Block for years. It is easy to follow and works great if I E-file. But it won't print off my state forms for mailing. Frustrated.

Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

2019 Estimated tax plan

The program needs to give information in the beginning and get the last years GIA numbers and how to get a Pen Number also I tried the estimated 2019 tax plan or "2019 estimated quarterly tax payment" and it was about 3 times what I paid last year and ended up this year with a large refund.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have used this package for years. Always up to date, always accurate, always easy to use. Only one problem this year... for some reason I wasn't able to add my cost of goods sold directly into a question box. Had to enter the numbers directly into the form. This has never been an issue before, so it could be a case of user incompetence.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

Easy to Use, but could be improved

I've been using H&R Block software to prepare my tax returns for 20 years, beginning at a time it was called Tax-Cut. I like the fact that it imports the data from my previous year's return, so I don't have to re-enter the names of my investments from previous years, including improvements made to rental properties, which are depreciated each year. However, I would have liked it more if the cumulative depreciation taken on the property and all improvements could have been computed by the program for completing Form 4797, when it came time to sell the property. As it was, I had to created a spreadsheet to determine the cumulative depreciation. Perhaps there was a way to get the program to do the work, but I couldn't find it and I didn't want to wait the estimated 40 minutes to speak to and H&R Block representative. I would like to see future versions of the H&R Block Premium software have the ability to compute the cumulative depreciation taken when H&R Block software has been used for tax return preparation from the time the property was acquired to the time it was sold. This should hold true for anything that can be computed from the cumulative data that has been entered into the tax software in previous years. For me, the biggest benefit from using tax preparation software is not having to computations myself. Whenever a value that is requested on a Form can be computed using data from previous years and data entered for the current year, the program should do the math.
Another part of the program I would like to see improved is the way it addresses the potential Underpayment Penalty (Form 2210). I'm not required to make regular estimated tax payments, but because I sold rental property at a significant gain in September, I made a single estimated tax payment on January 15, 2019, the due date for taxable income received September through December 2018. The estimated payment was sufficient to change the tax balance from a large amount owed to a moderate refund. Yet the program still went through the procedure of computing the penalty on an "underpayment" that didn't exist. While there may be a reason the IRS requires Form 2210 to be completed (since estimated payments are not taken into account at the time the penalty assessment process begins), the program should realize what is going on and provide a clear explanation to the user, while filing Form 2210 behind the scenes, if necessary. Instead of stating that the penalty was removed due to a tax reform (which removes the penalty, if the amount withheld is at least 80% of the tax liability), it should state that there is no penalty, because there is no underpayment, since the estimated payment was made by the due date to cover the income received during that period. As it is, the program does not acknowledge the fact that the estimated payment completely covered the tax liability, so there was no Underpayment, therefore no Penalty.
Other than the two items mentioned above, I enjoyed using the program once again.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast

Will not download updates so I cannot complete my State taxes. I go to the update center, download the update, install it and it still says I need to update it.
