I tried HRB Premium this year(2024 tax year) and quite honestly I was disappointed with the product. I filed with TurboTax in 2023 and didn't appreciate TT's inflated price for 2024. I had used HRB a few years earlier and was satisfied with it then and in 2024 the HRB Premium was much cheaper than TT so I went that route. While HRB did the job the program seemed wonky. HRB provided updates only once a week after first or second week of Jan '25. TT provides ongoing updates and has a easy to see 3-year side-by-side summary comparison. The HRB comparison is not as detailed or well laid-out and only compares this year to last year.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I did my own taxes, it takes more time to gather all the information but when applied on the tax software, it really breaks down what I input and what else is needed.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund

Was not able to efile my returns even though I used HR Block for 2023 tax return. IRS would not accept my return because AGI was incorrect. But it was correct. Verified 2023 return. 2nd year this has happened and I had to file paper return.

Couple things that were problematic. Some of the warnings found in the final check didn't make sense. The data field needed to be filled in but the program flagged them as an issue. No real explanation of why. Also, I have a managed investment account. The account makes many trades over the year and listing them all individually is tedious. The program seems to have a mechanism for lumping them into Long and Short term but the buy and sales dates don't allow VARIOUS as an option for both ends.
Pros: Easy to prepare
