I have used drake for years and they make it so simple...you just pull up schedule e and enter the info. And you make it much harder by giving you all these worksheets then you have to go pull up the forms to see if everything is correct on the 1040. Delete all these worksheets. They are not necessary. I am trying to do a schedule e and cannot find the darn worksheet. I know you need to do the worksheet for depreciation but not one for everything on the whole form.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to fix issues, Hard to prepare, Hard to import
I had to input my income three times because, for some reason, it wasn't reflected correctly the first time. The system also created duplicate forms, which is really not necessary. It confused when it said just delete the form if it's not necessary. Well, how am I supposed to know how many copies are needed? In the end, I just went ahead and deleted the second and third copies, hoping they would only need one copy. That was really not necessary. If I could do it, I would rate this as 3.5 stars.
One issue this time...State Income Tax or State Sales Tax (you must decide which to select). Unfortunately, the interview option did not ask me, but I forced the option because I remembered that question last year. Federal schedule A in the interview only asked for real estate taxes only.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import
navagation is not as good as previous versions. I found an error in the estimated taxes entry and spent a lot of time trying to find where to correct it. After the accuracy check it can be hard to move on from warnings. Printing copies to check entries can be difficult unless you go to forms where you have to know which ones have the information needed.
I finished my return and found out I had not entered the medical expenses I made from my wife's HSA. When entered I went from owing to receiving a small refund from the FED. The software had made all the corrections and I successfully emailed both state and Fed returns and printed out all my returns. However, when I went back later to download my returns to a flash drive the program said I had not filed and had not made the correction to the HSA. I have confirmation that the returns were accepted by the FED.
