Can't Print

Software is OK. For some reason, the 2016 software will not interface with my printer so I can't print my forms. No issues with previous returns or documents from other programs.
Cons: Hard to fix issues
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Have been using this software for several years now it's always reasonably priced, complete, and easy to use.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import, Fast

Leaves too much to the user

Unlike in the past, I found that too much depended on the user's knowledge of the tax system and the program. As an example, the program copied all the personal information from my return of last year and then asked me to check the whole thing,. In the past year, I had a ID protection PIN from the IRS, but the program did not prompt me to enter the new PIN.

I am very pleased with this program. It makes doing my taxes a breeze. I have been using HR Block for years and am impressed with it. It is very thorough and makes technical subjects easy. I love the way the program asks questions and fills out the form for you. Super dummy proof. I wasn't able to install it myself this year for the first time; I had to call support.

The 2016 software does not allow you to electronically file Minnesota taxes, due to a glitch in the software. 1099-R forms often have no information in box 14 (state distribution), yet the software won't allow you to file electronically (for Minnesota) unless some non-zero value is entered in box 14. This is an oversight on H&R Block's part, imho. It limits the value of using the software to file Minnesota taxes. Other state versions may also be affected, I don't know.
Cons: Hard to fix issues
Pros: Easy to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Easy Does It and Smooth

This is my third year using H&R Block Deluxe Software for my Federal taxes and I am very much pleased with the results. To me, with fairly simple taxes (retirement pay, interest and dividends) this product is just as good as the more expensive "turbo" branded package that I used prior to 2014. Data entry is easy and flexible and I feel confident that the H&R program insures accuracy and precision. Very pleased and expect to keep on using in the coming years.
