The system is great - even with the darn tax changes. I have been doing this now for almost 4 years with HR block and never have been disappointed. Gets a little tricky in the past but the program knows the path...!
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

An annoying flaw

Overall, I was impressed with the convenience and thoroughness of my HRB tax package. That is, until I went to file electronically. Then, issues with my 1099R data inputs were highlighted and had to be addressed. I feel these 1099R issues *should* have been verified/validated and highlighted at the time the data was entered in the forms, rather than delaying this verification/validation to the point of electronic filing. This, IMHO, is a significant flaw in an otherwise fine product.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund
I would recommend this to a friend!

LITTLE HELP WITH EDUCATION TAX
on April 10, 2019

Directed me to read IRS Publication 970 and figure out the 529 tax and all the jargon myself. Also I could not import my Schwab information because I use a special character in my password (doesn't everyone?).
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

ok but some inadequate features in the software.

I was prevented from e-filing my state return as a result of some issues that I was unable to resolve. In the federal section for reporting data from my CSA1099R there was no box to record the state/payers state no. There was also an issue with the state distribution amount.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Been Using H&R Block For Years

I've been using H&R Block tax software for years. Very easy to import W-2 data and to set up direct deposit for my refund. I would say the only problem with this year's software is that some of the fields aren't big enough. For example, when trying to add in the city, state, and zip code on a field, I ran out of room and had to eliminate some spaces. I had to convert "San Luis Obispo, CA 93401" to "SanLuisObispo, CA 93401".
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great Features...but

I feel like the software did everything I needed, but there was not always a good path to get detailed information or help with a specific topic throughout the enire experience. If you did not have a pretty good background or know about streams of income, you are likely to have a number of situations where you do not know what to do to move forward. I found myself guessing at the correct entry, reviewing the final results and than doing it again, differently, to get the results I felt represented the income and expenses I incurred to make that income. I don't like the guessing part of that statement and any help did not match the situation I had. Most of this dealt with 1099 forms, and interest income form personal loans. All of this added significant time to preparing my return.
