Better than expected

Easy to follow and very helpful with questionable entries. I use the same program every year which makes it faster to complete when using the import features.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents

Unclear Pathway to Correct Return

I have two properties that I rent. Put in both properties as prompted by software. When I got to the part where I add depreciation, the software does not make it clear whether to enter depreciation for both at a particular point or only one. First try - both depreciations showed for one property when I reviewed the actual form. Went in and deleted depreciations, but they still showed up on the form even though they were clearly gone from the software prompt screens. Started over several times. There is clearly a glitch in this part of the software. Eventually it worked, but there is nothing in the software prompts to tell you when you are entering depreciation information which one of the properties it will apply to. I reached a high level of frustration so I may be mistaken, but it appears that sometimes deleting depreciation information works (removes it from the actual form and the return) and sometimes it does not. In past years the software has worked perfectly for me, but I did not have multiple rental properties so I have not encountered this difficulty.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Handled Federal and Maine taxes and filing without a problem. Interview process is somewhat awkward, but it is thorough and covered everything I needed to do to file my taxes.

A good tax software program

Overall, I've gotten accustomed to your software, but you're sometimes weak on the details. Case in point: I could not take a deduction of $130 for a REIT dividend distribution, for which there IS a 2018 Qualified Business Income Deduction. The standard 1040 Instruction Manual contains a Worksheet for this, and your program said I was not qualified this year to take the deduction. NOT TRUE. Further, it was almost impossible to find where I could have taken the deduction in your software, as the K-1 Form interview did not direct the user to the deduction area of your program.. PLEASE, work on this this year, as many people have investments in REIT Index Funds. And, some of us have to report on the K-1.
Pros: Fast
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is my 3rd year using H&R Block tax software and I have been very satisfied with it. I've used the live chat and found the program to be easy to use.
