Simple and easy.

H&R Block tax filing system is so easy, that you have to be a blockhead if you don't. Nowhere to go to fill or, mail anything. Most situations you're finished in 30 minutes or less.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to fix issues, Easy to prepare, Fast

Updating program was a pain!

In general, this year's 2016 H&R Block program was very easy to follow, but I have never before experience the troubles I had to go through while trying to do the updates to this program.
Cons: Hard to fix issues, Hard to install
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import, Fast
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Can't e-file

I finished doing the taxes, then lo and behold, the software does NOT allow me to e-file due to the number of capital gains transactions. Not an IRS limitation, but one imposed by the software.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have used H&R Block since it was originally called PCTaxcut. It is great and easy to use. The only thing is that every year, another feature seems to disappear. This year, the two year summary does not seem to be available. However, the main use is to create taxes and it has always proven to work well.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to prepare, Fast

My experience was good except that I was mailed the CD Big Deals and promised free Federal filing.....there was no activation code! So I had to pay to finish. That was disappointing.

The interview and sections don't change which is good. I needed to look at my 2015 return and I could follow the same sections on a side by side comparison.
The one issue the need to fix is the 8889 and 1099-SA.
Cons: Hard to fix issues
Pros: Easy to prepare

Getting better but room for improvement

I had two problems with this year's return -- the software found one (GOOD JOB) when I tabbed one extra time before entering data and showed qualified dividends and capital gain instead of ordinary dividends and qualified dividends on schedule D. This was found during the audit before filing.
After filing, the return was rejected because I had changed to put all of the excess payment for 2016 into 2017 and the form had a check mark to direct deposit any refund. The program should have removed the check mark after I elected to put all of the excess money into next year's tax payment.

In terms of use, I find it difficult to verify large amounts of information that were down loaded into my return. After the first page, the program always returns to the first line of the information when I want to do the next item to be verified.
When filling out the New York State return you have to include your drivers license information (if you have one) for the first time this year. BUT when you are eligible for a NY State refund, you have to re-enter the same identification information. The information should be automatically repeated once you have entered it.
Cons: Time consuming
Pros: Easy to import
