There is always something that bring up errors. For example, there was a question about loosing your spouse. I lost mine in November of 2018. This brought up an error so I had to go back and pretend that he was still alive. The other error had to do with filing long form last year which I did not, but I put in information to see if I could, so I had to enter the amount of refund I got from my state in order to electrically file. In other words, you get these alerts and there is nothing you can do about it unless you put bad information on your form. I don't want to mail my form in. That is one of the reasons I buy the software. If I wanted to mail it, I would just do the form long hand.
Pros: Maximizes refund
Cons: Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have used H&R Block tax software for several years and wouldn't use anything else.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast

Prior years versions were better

This years version did not explain the changes in the tax code or expired credits. In prior years you could deduct an energy credit for new energy star certified insulation, doors, and windows installed in the home. I was disappointed to find that the program expired in 2017 which is not H & R Block's fault but I was equally frustrated with the lack of information in the software explaining why. The user has to go in and research on the web what happened which makes the filing process more complicated, adding to the amount of time needed to spend filing. In addition, Mortgage Insurance was another option missing from the software with no explanation that the user had to research why that option is not available. H & R Block needs to do a better option explaining changes to the tax code and when credits expire, not just assume that people should know that. Most people live busy lives and do not have the time to stay current with the tax code, that is the job of H & R Block and other tax preparers and why people rely on them to make tax filing easier. Other than that the rest of the software was ok and easy to navigate.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund

The software walks one through the tax process in a logical and complete manner. It accounts for all contingencies and verifies suspected errors.
Pros: Easy to prepare

I have used H&R Block for for many years, 10 plus. Never had any problems with the software and easy to use when you have your personal data to input.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

There is a part that is confusing at the end. Just do not click on "delete" anything, don't even know why the option was there.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming

Pro: It has a Help Feature that works well,
The Federal section works slick once you fill in the info and answer all of the questions.
You can always edit or delete a page or file.
You get helpful warnings, did you forget, check this, type questions from time to time on the info typed in.
Once you get into the program it becomes easier to follow the steps and you can jump around more freely if you want or need to.
Con: It needs larger info work tab space in 1099 and Schedule B and D.
It needs to have the screen image expandable like adobe acrobat does when you view a Form or worksheet.
The State program may miss some things because it only brings over the info from the federal program so you need to check the forms section plus the help feature and work this yourself. It is Not set up like the federal questions and fill-in the blanks.
