I am a regular tax preparer under the AARP/TCE program, handle about 250 returns during the year. I am not allowed to use personally our program software, so bought this year the H & R Block Deluxe product. Of the four software tax programs I have used, this is by far the best. Far better than what we use in our volunteer program. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, and will certainly use it for my personal returns next year. Only difficulty found was in understanding the method by which Federal data, pensions/IRA's, were transferred to State return. Otherwise, an excellent product, and certainly better than others on the market.
Cons: Hard to fix issues
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Fast

Every year I wonder why I use H&R Block

I first started using you tax program in 1975. Loved it. Took the class again 1n 1996. Loved it. But transporting some of the manual features over into automated returns leaves much to be desired. Examples copies of schedules is crazy. Do away with extraneous copies just have the latest. I had 8 times where I took stuff to Goodwill . So now I am submitting a return with 8 yellow errors. Really, it is 2017 bring your program up to date. Oh yeah, I have to file my state taxes via snail mail. Because I started a new return for myself because I did not wish to get into the copy issue and the state program was attached to the first effort and would not attach to the second.
Cons: Hard to fix issues
Pros: Easy to install
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

2016 H & R Block tax software was a piece of cake

I have been using H & R Block for years. They goofed up on my 2011 return, but paid my $3100 tax deficiency plus interest. I have no idea why the IRS wasted so much time on my 2011 tax deficiency. I came close to going to Tax Court.
My H & R Block for 2016 was a piece of cake to complete. The key to 2016 success and speed was to thoroughly organize receipts in advance.

Form 8453

I used e-file for my 1040. I also needed to send Form 8332 and "interview" said program would come back after IRS accepted my return with instructions on how to send Form 8453 with the Form 8332 attached. Your program never came back with instructions - I had to look for myself on IRS web site. Please fix for next year.

Again, this program made me have to file an amended and corrected submission.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to fix issues, Hard to prepare, Hard to import

Deluxe 2016 Software

I have used this software for many years, even when it was called Tax Cut and have always been very pleased with it. Everything went well this year until I got to the part that estimates next year's taxes, and the program was a disaster. It is totally incomplete and is essentially worthless. I ended up having to calculate my estimated taxes manually. I would recommend this product only for someone not needed to file a 1040-ES.
