Federal version is just ok. State version is vague, opaque, and clearly written by interns. Why should I have to pay to e-file state when it’s easier for the state to process?

I’ve been using this software for over 10 years and this was the worst version.

I have used H&R tax software for years. I am very pleased with it. I would give a 5 rating if your program on the RMD didn’t take me done a rabbit hole. I take out more than what is required and yet the program calls it excess and that I pay a penalty. Need to correct that for 2025 tax year.

Error checking return at end always causes problem

I hate tax time! The procedures are so complicated now that tax software is the only way to go. But, this H&R block software causes me problems every year. It happens when I am getting ready to file my taxes, and it automatically checks the return for errors before submitting to the IRS. It's almost impossible sometimes to figure out what is causing the errors, even if you click on the help button. This year it choked on me not having the correct information for the social security form. I didn't even collect social security last year, why is it flagging this error? I never did figure it out, but I somehow managed to file anyway.

Needed to file an amended return and the reason for amending did not transfer to the State forms, now I’ll be audited and will likely pay a penalty to California

It kept asking me to fill in a number for my Social Security benefits. Yes, I am 68, but I'm not taking Social Security yet! Otherwise, it was perfect... as it has been every year!
