NYS union dues deduction

I was happy with the Federal program, as I have been for many years. This year the New York State program did not address the new law that allows a full deduction for union dues, instead of the 2% exception. I found out where to claim it after researching the topic online, but I really expect the tax program to do this calculation for me. Very disappointed. New York tax code has some very complex calculations built into worksheets, which is why I buy the tax software anyway.
Pros: Fast
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

Straightforward and Fast to Complete

The software is pretty streamlined, allowing me to input rather than import when I need to (I did not see a way to import a couple of my 1099-R's). Completed my return pretty quickly. The one problem I have, is that my retired wife receives a "paycheck stub" every year that shows the monetary value receives because her company pays the premium, for the insurance value over $50,000, for a life insurance policy that they provide to her. This is treated as ordinary income by the IRS. Her company doesn't withhold any income tax, Social Security or Medicare tax. The program's final review doesn't like this, expects an entry for these witholdings and will not let me go past this point without a fight. It is a booger to get around. This has happened every year for the last three years.

Cons: Hard to import documents

Good tax Software

I downloaded this package and was glad to have it readably available to work on during our terrible weather here in Minnesota..But needs improved security wash sale guidance and instructions/examples

As a former H&R Block tax advisor, I am very pleased with this product. It was easy to input this year's information based on import of last year's information and import of tax documents from the web. I reviewed the completed return and verified it's accuracy. E-filing will get me my refund quickly.
