For the most part the software is easy to use. I found it frustrating that we had paid more in taxes than we owed, yet I still had to go through the underpayment penalty analysis.

Very detailed program - guides you through all the intricacies of tax return filing. A little weak on explaining IRA contributions in the same year you take a withdrawal are accounted for.

Kind of a clunky user-interface overall, and seemed to have a lot of bugs this year with simple software-update mechanisms and such. Would sy there was an update, then after updating, would say that update is there again and needs to be installed. Help text online did not resolve the problem. My Deluxe software, which included the state software, would not let me get the state software without paying, so I had to call the help line. They helped out very well, but this should not have been a problem in the first place. Otherwise, the software did my taxes acceptably well, I guess. One never really knows if it got everything right or not.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I was disappoinsted when I could not get an answer/clarification with regard to the PIN i was asked to insert during the filing process and an IP PIN that was provided early in the year by the IRS. The HRB pin was five gits and the IRS pin is six so they are not interchangeable. All I was told was to call the IRS. Turns out that a simple search in the HELP area pointed me to the place to insert the IRS 6-digit pin is in the Profile area. Since I don't remember being asked for it and 'm not sure but I think this is in the individual profile area that may be automatically completed during the the information transfer from the previous return.. After filling this in and completing the HRN entry in during the filing procedures, my return was accepted. The instructions provided after earlier rejections do not answer the questions.

I have enjoyed the HRB software for a couple of decades and have found it productive...that is until the current version. My return has been rejected by the IRS 4 times and there has been no (human) help to rectify the issue. I just find myself sending to two robots: the HRB one and the IRS one.
Cons: Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
