Thorough, User Friendly

I appreciate the format, being able to save data, go back to previous sections. Helpful layout to click on any section I need to review or start over. Nice to have Links to IRS publications for more info, and for option. to open specific forms to see the whole thing, so I can understand the context better when I am answering questions. I can go back frequently, like the identified errors or areas to review before submitting my return. Payment process a little less painful through an easy link to the IRS site.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund

No problems except waiting for software updates

The software took me through the step by step process really well, but when I finished, I still had to wait several weeks for software updates before it would allow me to file.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund

Issue with Form 1116 & Partnership K-1

The partnership reported foreign expenses directly allocated to foreign sources for the partner. I reported it in the input which properly carried it to Form 1116 to reduce the gross foreign income allocated to partner, which was further reduced by apportioned total deductions. The remaining net foreign income was used to determine the foreign tax credit limit. When starting e-file, it said direct allocated entry not allowable for e-filing, which is ridiculous as it was an appropriate entry. I deleted the expense entry since foreign taxes paid were less than the correct limit, so larger limit irrelevant. E-filing then completed
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming

I have been using a tax professional to do my taxes for years but her rate has gone up each year and gotten expensive. Last year I had her do my taxes and file but I also did them with H&R Block as a check and the results were almost identical. This year I did my own taxes and filed using H&R Block and saved hundreds. Since I had to assemble all the information for her anyway it's fairly easy to just put the information into H&R Block software instead. I have used Turbo Tax in the past and in my opinion this is easier and less confusing. I will continue to use H&R Block in the future.

Better than TurboTax

This was my first time using H&R Block software and I was very happy. It costs less and was faster.
