One major frustration

I had over 400 1099 Capital Gains transactions. I ingest them from the FI into Excel and from that produce a CSV that is used to create a TXF file. You ingest the TXF file fine, but you force me to validate each transaction and your UI is abysmal. I would prefer a worksheet presentation where I don't have the wasted repetitive clicks to navigate through multiple screens, in many cases to do nothing. It's enough to make me go online and find out if Turbo Tax does it better. I'm clicking yes to the recommendation question, but only for people with a low number of 1099 transactions.
Cons: Time consuming
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to prepare, Easy to import
Systematically walks you thru all the possible forms. First 2 tries with Form 2210 Underpayment were rejected, eventually I just paid the penalty, without Form 2210. Would be nice if TaxCut could decode the Rejection Codes. Also, CD would not install, said error in screen resolution, when the real problem was the 150% text selection, it needed 100% to install.
I have used H&R Block s/w for many years to do my taxes -- even before it became H&R Block from TaxCut. I have always been more than pleased with the product, however, this year I have had a frustrating time with it; namely because the program didn't correct/change the form's values if/when an answer was changed as one goes through the questions a second or third time....etc. The recalculate feature was basically ineffective, since the figure on the form didn't reflect changed figures. Additionally, the frustrating part was on the payment options for amounts due -- the 1040 form only allows check or credit card payment, however, the s/w also included an automatic withdrawal option from a bank. It took quite a bit of finagling to figure it out and to fix it.... ugh
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to fix issues
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to prepare, Easy to import
I had a little trouble understanding some of the corrections I had to do but it went well. I have used this program for the past few years and plan on keep on using it.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to fix issues, Easy to prepare, Easy to import
BUYER BEWARE - IF YOU ARE REPORTING SALE OF YOUR MAIN HOME!! Problem occurs when using the "Mini-Worksheet for Line 2, Selling Expenses" regarding the sale of your main home. If any figure is input into either lines 1d or 1e, the software computes this as a long-term capital GAIN. The resultant incorrect figure is then carried over to Form 8949 and Schedule D. Also, the erroneous gain then carried over to my state return which caused that return to be incorrect. Note: my wife and I met all ownership/use criteria for the full 500K exclusion, and thus there should have been no gain figure at all showing from this sale.
I've used H&R Block for 5+ years and generally like it. I had to file an amended return this year and became frustrated with the program and its lack of intuitiveness and even functionality. The program does not appear to import the existing 1040 data; you make the changes you want and then have to go in and re-enter data that you already entered with your original return. Should not have to be that way. And even if so, it needs to be made much more clear in the instructions as to what you need to do.
Perhaps my rating was a bit harsh; maybe 4 stars...as I have used the software for several years...meaning that I'm willing to re-purchase, year after year.
