Easy and Quick

I used to take all weekend to file my taxes, but now it just takes a few hours. This is the best tax software that I have ever used. It has tons of features and the quick explanations and tutorials help and make me feel confident about my return. I did have some issues and gaps this year when importing from last years program. There were several gaps and I had to manually enter or override inaccurate or missing information that did not cross over for some reason. The instructions were clear and easy on how to do this, though and were part of the program and easy to find. It also makes e-filing very fast and convenient. I do wish my state e-file fees were included in the cost of the program. I have used this program for the past five years. I would recommend this product for all taxpayers of all skill levels.
Cons: Hard to import

easy to use for simple tax preparation

We have used H&R Block tax software for years to prepare our own taxes. Without having complicated tax issues, this software makes tax preparation easy and nice for us to complete our own taxes year after year.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import, Fast

I bought HR Block because I've always used it before. However, I'm not happy with it this year. I can't afford to buy another software so it's what I have to use this year. I didn't get enough back to pay for another software purchase. Lesson learned.
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare
Pros: Easy to install
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

H&R Block 2016 Deluxe (version 6401) is flawed

If you click on "Add Item" in the Foreign Tax Credit screen" (even if you make no entries and it's blank) it will create an item that overrides the foreign tax credits that were in the 1099-DIV entries and they will not carry over to the 1040. To disable the override you must either close and reopen the return or delete the item in the Foreign Tax Credit screen. This is a subtle malfunction that is hard to catch and it's even harder to figure out how it operates.

The old one was better but this is a good one and easy to use once you get used to it

I filed electronically and was required to mail in IRS form 8453 along with some other documents. When I filed electronically, the program told me I had to mail this form and would provide instructions after my electronic filing was accepted. Instructions were never provided, I eventually went online to find the instructions only to find that I had to mail it within three days of my electronic submission being accepted. I was late but mailed it anyway. Wonder if I'll receive a penalty from the IRS for being late? Never again will I use this program.

I have used H&R Block tax prep software for years and have always found them to be easy to use and thorough. I have used the other popular tax prep software years ago and find the H&R Block every bit as good.

I've used H&R tax app for years-- this is the first time it was rejected because the app put in the amended income . Also the app did not print out the 1099R form when I made a copy of the return!! The program did not seem as easy to use as in previous years.
