Problems updating and activation code

I downloaded and installed the program on my Mac. When I launched it, I was told there was an update so I proceeded with the update. After downloading it and relaunching the app again said there was an update and I again proceeded with the update. This scenario looped over and over without end. I finally had to go into ~/Library/Application Support/H&RBlock/2023 and manually apply the update.
The software came with a free state program which I proceeded to install but not fill our for a few weeks while I completed the Federal forms. When I went to use the state program, I was told that I would have to buy it!! Needless to say this was frustrating and had to call tech support. They sent me a link and I downloaded it. However I once again had to resort to manually installing the CA program.
Then came the next frustrating experience with this badly designed application. I proceeded to e-file my taxes and upon clicking Send, I was told that: "The activation code you entered for free federal e-filing
has reached its limit. You can still e-file your return
for a fee. Please click the OK button to go back
to the Filing Options screen."

Grrrr! I had not attempted to file ever since I purchased the software. I went to the screen in the program where the activation code was displayed (the program had prefilled it) and it exactly matched what's displayed in the About H&R Block Activation Code. A call to tech support's automated call center gave me the option to get a replacement code either by phone or email. Neither option worked since their office was closed.
Today was the next to last day for filing (I live in a disaster zone that got an extension to file until 6/17/24) so I was in semi-panic mode. I dug out the email from when I purchased the app and in it I found a slightly different activation code. Holding my fingers crossed I tried once again to file and lo and behold this time it worked.
Upon looking in the About box again I saw that this activation code had been changed to the new one. Incredibly poor software.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Have been using this same H&R Block tax software for the past 6 years and are used to it. The previous tax returns are stored with H&R Block so easy to compare to the current tax year. Very accurate and guaranteed to provide professional help if audit is to happened. Always the cheaper than other more expensive software. Highly recommend this to everyone who do their tax returns.

Using HRBlock income tax prep successful for years

I've been using HRBlock income tax prep successful for over ten years. I like the "start with last year" feature the most. The help files are very good, the navigation is excellent. E-filing has always gone without a hitch.

There are just a couple of issue, some wording, the way gambling winnings are carried to state returns, It might be a good idea to set up an 800 number to report these issues as encountered.
