The deluxe program did not properly address a QCD for an Inherited account. I called about my problem a few times and delayed my tax return for 2 months awaiting a fix which was never incorporated.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Basic "interview" software, definitely better than doing it yourself. But one huge problem, if you need to amend your return this software is absolutely terrible.

I've used H&R Block software since the days it was called TaxCut, and have always found it simple to use. The ability to start a new tax return using the data from the previous return is a real timesaver.
The amount of effort in making federal returns easy to understand and fill in really shows. The state return (at least, the Massachusetts return) does not show the same attention to detail, sometimes forcing me to look elsewhere for information (one year I overpaid the PFML tax, and the software and accompanying help panels seemed unaware that such situations could exist!).
The e-filing works reliably, and I've never had an issue with inaccuracy or errors on account of the software. It's reassuring that all that complex paperwork is properly filled in!
Pros: Easy to prepare, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

H&R Block asked questions during the interview for tax credits and skipped the American opportunity credit. Parallelly, my daughter was playing around with FreeTaxUSA.com and got the American opportunity credit and filled the tax return with them free of cost. Had I filed with H&R Block, I would have lost the refund money. Defective software.
Pros: Fast
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

I have used Block software for 10 + years and never had to ask for help. This year Block software said my tax return was perfect but was rejected by IRS. When i asked for help from Block I was told they couldn't help. Next year I will switch to TURBO TAX.
