I've used HRB Deluxe & State since 2017 when I quit TT due to their inflated prices. My HRB experience has been good and my only gripes are: (1) They don't transfer enough data from the previous year's return. Specifically, they DO transfer brokerage acct names but not the account numbers, leaving this menial copy & paste work to the user. (2) if you've got a problem that requires human assistance- good luck!- in 2022 I had to wait ~ 2 hours before getting help with an electronic submission problem.
Cons: Hard to import documents
I would recommend this to a friend!

Very slow in updating forms.. 3 weeks behind TurboTax. Also form 8911 was not included on deluxe so could not avail myself of all the write offs I had available.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund

Yes, it takes a bit of work to prepare your own tax return, but there are many reasons why this is a good thing, and, why you should use the H&RB program. Here are a few: 1) the price; 2) you'll have a better understanding of why your refund, or underpayment occurred; 3) electronic filing is quick and easy and your refund shows up in about 7 days; 4) you can schedule your payment of taxes owed as a direct withdrawal and then not have to worry about penalties; 5) using the included program for calculating the value of items donated to charity is a great tool that can get you a larger refund because you're not under-estimating their value.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents

The software is really quite easy to use. I have used it for a number of years and the problems have been minimal. The support if you call in with a problem has not been a good experience for me. Fortunately, I have only had to call two times. I find it easy to understand and very well written.
