It failed when trying to efile on 15th. Says software problem. Apologized but still showing error yet taxes were efile. That was very very annoying
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund

I have used TurboTax previously and wanted to try H&R Block thinking it would not much difference in tax software. Operational-wise, they both do the income tax but H&R is not user-friendly in explaining tax situations in layman's terms. It explains more like a CPA. It makes you enter information over and over again such as bank account information for your refund. It doesn't allow you to click to solve the problem on the spot but makes you manually go to the error section. It lacks the smarts to tell what is wrong. There are lots of little nuances that make you crazy. I am not planning to use H&R again even though it costs slightly less than TurboTax.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I have been using this product for several years.
The software is consistent from year to year so I'm fairly competent using it, first time users might find it more difficult to navigate.
I like the fact that if you think a topic applies to you, you can hilite it and the software will walk you thru the details to see if it is truly applicable to your return. Much easier than reading the whole IRS US Income tax code manual and mini worksheets to determine if the topic is applicable.
Also it saves info year to year to decrease hand entering the boilerplate names, occupation, dependents, addresses, etc.

I have used this tax software for years and have never really had any complaints until this year. I have a problem with the order of topics presented. This is the second year I know that the Schedule F questions come up immediately and this is information I would like to input later. I usually skip these questions and come back later but I always feel I lose my train of thought when I do this. Staying on the Schedule F, I think the question on 'commuting miles' should be clarified. If this question pertains to the miles for one round trip to the work location then it should state that! In the final review, I corrected what had to be corrected and tried to submit my return but then I had to input the average balance of my mortgage before I could submit. That should have been a question in the topic on mortgage interest if it was required to submit the tax return. Otherwise I did not find any other issues with the software program. I think overall it could be a little more straightforward and clear to the user.
Pros: Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming
I would recommend this to a friend!
