This is probably the 10th year I've used Block's software. I switched from TurboTax because of Intuit's abysmal customer support. Block's interview process is good, although the foreign tax credit comes up long after you've entered dividend income, even though info about foreign taxes is on 1099s for dividends. I was annoyed that the ability to enter an itemized list, a nice feature in the past, disappeared from many of the entry fields, and there is no reference on in the embedded help or on the help website to itemized lists. And it's a ripoff that you get free federal electronic filing, bu when you buy a state package, you have to pay extra to file online. But it's still a good, comprehensive tax software package.
Easy to use interface. Helpful tips and explanations for most items. Would like improved explanations for certain items that were not explained and had to resource to outside help.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to fix issues, Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import, Fast
It was very easy to do an Extension. Is there a list somewhere in the program of the general categories? I'd like to see a list to start putting paperwork in order, before entering in the computer. Since there are many old people, I would've liked to see more words, "minimum distribution" in the text. I had 3 checks that it took me forever to connect them with some 1099-Rs that we already had, less the tax percentage that we had instructed to be taken out. I almost listed them separately at the end of dividends or income!
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to fix issues, Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import
Have used H&R Block Deluxe for several years--seems to get better and easier. It's most user-friendly to maneuver--and accurate. Dreaded taxes are far less dreaded since using this program.
