I was employed by H&R Block for five years as a tax preparer. Their software program was and is the best available for accuracy. That includes the disc I received in the mail. It is easy to install and use. There are "Helps" all along the way to explain what is required and if you follow the instructions you can be sure that your return is correct.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to fix issues, Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import, Fast

Help Is Impossible

Tax Program is Great but the HELP system is the worst I have ever seen. When you click on something specific, it takes you to the GENERAL HELP PAGE. I needed to get information on filing Bitcoin and I had to go to GOOGLE to find the page for HR Block.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to fix issues

Does not handle deceased taxpayers quite right

I have used H&R Block tax software for years and am very pleased with it in general. This year I had to file for my deceased father and while the software handled most of it there were a few things it didn't do right. First off it will not electronically file the return and provides a meaningless reject reason. Switching to paper filing, it does not provide specific instructions on how to complete and mail the form for a deceased taxpayer. It also does not fill in the address field correctly. The address field for a deceased taxpayer should have my name and address. These things are all straight-forward and H&R Block should correct them in the next version of the software.

Concerning Illinois Form 1040, Line 5, the amount you entered is considerably less than what I would expect, and I can't find any indication of where it came from. I have searched through all the material that you make available, and cannot find out how it is calculated.
Pros: Easy to install

I have been using H&R Block Deluxe tax software since it was first introduced around 1995. I do taxes for all my family members so it gets a lot of use. I have never had a problem or an error with this software. I know the competition has had some errors in their calculations. I highly reccomend H&R Block tax software.
