charged twice for state

Multiple electronic filing problems

Both my daughter and I had to file on paper as there were multiple problems when we tried to use electronic filing. The instructions were very difficult to follow in order to correct the problems.
Cons: Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not very user friendly

Last year and in previous years, I have used H&R Block's software and been quite happy with it. Not so this year, I thought it was difficult to use, even though I had used previous versions.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Good software, ID verification caused high anxiety

High anxiety!
I’ve been quite happy with the software, UNTIL this filing season. I ran into the dreaded identity identification issue that I’ve seen others talk about in user forums.
That is - shortly after e-filing I received an email saying “We could not e-file your return right now", and asking me to call 877-844-0529.
Tax time is already a time of high anxiety, and this nearly pushed me over the edge!
You’re wanting to verify my identity to avoid fraud. That's great, I understand and appreciate that. But to do so, you’re asking me via email to call that number and to provide highly sensitive information.
How do I know that number is really yours, and that the person who answers is really an H & R block employee!
I looked all over your website and the web, and could not verify to my satisfaction that it was a legitimate number really belonging to you - only vague indications that it might be real.
In the end, I decided from other indications in the email headers, etc., that the request seemed legitimate. I called the number and with great unease - submitted to your requests for personal information.
But think about it - this would be a perfect spoof for a spammer to run on tax day! Setting up a fake call center would be as easy as it is to spoof the sender on an email!
This is a serious flaw in your methodology that increased my anxiety and gave me great pause!
It seems to me, that in such situations, you should build identity checks into the software through the usage of highly secure public-key certificates. The technology exists.
This experience may be a show-stopper for me next year, and I’ll be looking for alternatives, and will certainly relay this information to my friends and family.

Missing one important feature

I thought I had filed my taxes. Overall, it's my fault. I didn't check the status of the return until it was too late. Now I will be stuck with penalties. You need email reminders near tax day that say Don't forget to file your return! A simple feature that would have saved me some money from my error.

I've been using this software for a long time - from the start when it was called TaxCut.
It is very easy to use and provides great support if needed.

I really like this software for filing my taxes. This software is easy to follow along and the built in knowledge base when asking questions is very informative.
