HR Block Software

I found a serious error in the program for 2017 and 2018 and only caught it this year. NJ requires you to report interest from a K-1 together with any dividends on line 26. In the past the program would ask and then remove the interest from Federal interest total and sum it up in the worksheet with your K-1 dividends. For 2017 and 2018 it removed the interest from line 16a but only reported the K-1 Dividend total..excluding the interest on line 26. I had to manually make the change and it took me hours to figure out what was wrong. I went back to my 2014 and 2015 versions and they all worked correctly. Seems like a glitch which is not being reported properly and therefore under reporting NJ revenue unless you manually change it. I spent 45 minutes on the phone but it was a waste of my time.
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Always a problem
on April 10, 2019

This year it says my form cannot be processes because of the "Other" line in my W2. This is senseless and it provides no way around the error. Additionally any help is a pain. No direct way to get help....
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming, Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Extremely unfriendly software

1. Did not import W2 information correctly. Took forever to load the W2 form and then when I clicked OK to confirm, the whole application crashed. This happened multiple times. I am not paying money to enter everything manually!! It is stupid! 2. To get the 1099-INT form, they do not have an option to connect with BofA! That is just plain stupid! This is one of the biggest banks and they don't provide a hook up with them. 3. The interface was very poor in general. Too many questions and very little explanation.
Would give negative scoring for ease of use!
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great 2018 Product & Live Person Customer Support

I have been using H&R Block software for the past four tax filing seasons and I am so happy I did! The SW has been a huge blessing when it came to federal filing and at several times, having "'multiple state returns" to file during "a" filing season. The on-call customer support personnel have been extremely helpful and quite professional. I know haven't tried other tax preparation SW, but I can't seen myself leaving H&R Block as thus far, they've been truly awesome!
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Fast
I would recommend this to a friend!

e-filing failed
on April 12, 2019

e-filing failed even though I'd used the same software last year. Reason: last year's AGI did not match what I reported -- even though it was pulled from the same software/files.
I ended up mailing in both federal and state returns.
