I ticked the wrong box and had to reenter all my personal information and prepaid tax information.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import, Fast
Cons: Hard to fix issues

HR Block Tax Software is extremely easy to use. It guides me through the whole process, makes preparing my taxes quick and easy so I get my refund fast. Getting my refund fast is what counts!

I've used the H&R Block tax software for many years. I do my taxes and my kids. It enables me to do it all, including state tax return, in 1 day. I've started to make more use of the automated download features for the W2s and 1099s. Very nice. However, in this year's version i found a quirk in which a downloaded 1099 ended up being duplicated in the actual forms so that all my 1099-DIV and 1099-B sale proceeds ended up getting double entried. The only change I made after importing the form was to change the name applicability radio button from just me to both me and my wife. That seemed to cause a duplication of the information in the underlying worksheets rather than just a change. Fortunately I noticed it and was simply able to delete the extra worksheet copy. After noticing the higher than expected proceeds I was able to track down and fix the problem using the "take me to" and "show forms" features.

Although the program breezes you through the steps to complete your return, I had to wait well past the estimated 7 minute download time for updates to finish state. This caused me to have to return to the program two times now, and my state return isn't finished still. Plus, my federal refund was considerably less than last year - so much so that I will run it through my usual tax filing software to see if something was missed. Not very impressed overall, planning on going back to the competitor.

Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to import

Have been using Turbo-Tax until it a few years ago when it became to difficult to make changes and corrections when entering data. H&R Block software is very workable... you can go back to fix or review any section without having to save and start over. The secret to using any tax software of course is to have all of your records together BEFORE you start the program. So make sure you have any and all financial records, deduction categories, personal date, etc. in front of you in an organized system so it is easy to find. But HRBlock software won't let you miss anything if you read EVERY section thoroughly even if you don't think it pertains to you, because sometimes when you least expect it, it does.
