I switched to H&R Block from another tax software several years ago. Initially it had a better section on itemized deductions and easier download from brokerage accounts. Last year a technology issue kept the final tax return from being uploaded to the IRS. Ended up mailing a copy to IRS only to find that the return had been filed (even though the error message said it did not go through). This year the software would not download brokerage information from Merrill Lynch. (All other accounts were able to download.) They need to fix the tech issues or it will be worth it to switch back to another provider.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Hard to import documents
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It works fine for me I only do the basic federal return with the standard deduction. Then I e-file.

I have used h&r tax software for many years now and it’s the only one I’ve ever used so I can’t really compare it to others. I can say that it makes it easier than doing it without any help. I like the suggestions, cautions and warnings that it gives when something needs to be addressed. It does what I need it to do.
