Trouble with Traditional IRA Conversion

In 2017 I converted 45K from my traditional to roth IRA. The interview asked for the basis which I gave it. But it seemed to assume this was a total conversion so it did not complete Form 8606 Pt 1&3 and just subtracted my basis from the 45K and put that on 1040.
I finally found the little box on form 8606 checked stating this was a total conversion. When I unchecked it I could complete 8606 and it computed Pts 1 & 3 accurately.
So, take me back to the interview. The basis was blank. When I put the basis back in it again assumed I was converting my whole traditional IRA by "x"ing that little square just below Form 8606 Pt 1 header. Curses! I again un "x"ed that little box and all was well but I feel there is something wrong with the app. And I'll admit it could very well be operator error.
I have used Taxcut for about 25 years and this is my first & only complaint. Our taxes are pretty simple.

I've relied on H&R Block software and have been truly pleased. It's approachable and does a fine job of stepping you through the tax filing process.

Quite straightforward as always. I decided to efile this year instead of paper. The first submission was rejected by IRS due to an incorrect amount in the prior year AGI field, which was automatically populated by Block. The amount was off by nearly 30k. No idea why it was wrong. Correction was quick and easy and new submission accepted quickly too. I should have noticed the error, by I can’t remember last week, let alone last year!

Have purchased this software for many years and will continue to do so. It is frustrating/annoying to re-enter info on the Worksheet that is already in the imported previous year's info.
Pros: Easy to install, Easy to fix issues, Easy to prepare, Easy to import
Cons: Time consuming
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

CAN'T IMPORT LAST YEAR'S DATA

For the third year using H&R Block, I could not import last year's tax information. The help directions did not apply to what I saw on the screen. I had to manually input the data. I have a simple return that should have taken 30 minutes. It took 90 minutes!
Pros: Easy to install
Cons: Time consuming, Hard to import
