Tax software is necessary if you want to do your own taxes. H&R Block software is thorough without a one question per screen approach. However, there software is not perfect and for more complicated returns a phone call may be required to resolve an input error notice. As an example, the first time I tried to respond to this rating, I could not get the program to accept my star rating choice. I tried a couple of days later and it worked fine. Now I find I can't respond to points 2 through 9 without clicking SUBMIT first.

We have used Turbo Tax for 15 years. We tried H&R Block this year as it was half the price. We were delighted to learn it pulled all the info from last year's Turbo Tax submission and we got back what we were expecting. The software was VERY easy to use and when we had a question, the customer service lady was patient, polite and very knowledgeable. We will be using H&R Block from now on.
