I've been using H&R Block tax prep software since 2014. Before 2014 I'd been using TurboTax for many years, but that was the year that TurboTax tried to swindle its users by restricting the tax forms supported by their basic-level package. So I switched to H&R Block and never had any reason to switch back.
This year's H&R Block Basic is better than ever for my middle-complexity tax situation. Unlike some prior years, there were no errors found in the final check that necessitated erasing an inexplicable entry generated by the program into a tax form field. The level of "upsell" page displays also seemed reduced from previous years. I always use the Basic version because it is the cheapest while still incorporating all the tax forms an individual would ever need. I don't require whatever tax advice the more costly versions might offer.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The software answers your questions and guides you through the process, and has a double check feature at the end to make sure you didn't miss anything. Use multiple years in a row and it saves your info from year to year.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents

Have been using this software for several years but am unhappy that you can not now contact a human to ask questions about problems encountered with it. It's very time consuming to try to figure out a problem.
Pros: Easy to import documents
Cons: Time consuming
