It's such a pleasure for them to be asking you what you have to put into the return and then doing all the calculating for you and never making a mistake. Can't imagine ever going back to doing my return by hand.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
The SOCIAL SECURITY INCOME WORKSHEET does not conform to the official IRS worksheet in Publication 915. This may result in an over payment of Connecticut Income Tax, as Lines A, C, and D of the CT Social Security Benefit Worksheet are reduced when the CT instructions are followed using the H&R Block worksheet.
H & R Block Basic tax software for 2019 tax year, like its three previous versions, was a snap for our basic situation. Easy, fast, and clear throughout a very user-friendly step-by-step process that is smooth and easy to navigate without ever being left wondering if I was off track or getting lost. The check for accuracy at the end was the same way, and automatically took me to where I needed to directly input some clarifying numbers. It clearly explained why the additional numbers were needed and, after acknowledging the issue had been corrected, returned me right back to the step where I had been near the conclusion and electronic signing of the return.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Maximizes refund, Easy to import documents, Fast
Software has not changed much in years, and it should. It does not allow edit undo, and explanations that really help understand what a choice does to your return, especially around rarely used or new areas. Importing investments is difficult and will double import data if run a second time. Then you have to review every sell of stock, etc; which means to compare to paper and confirm the data. Why import? My wife has account in her name and my name, and I have accounts in my name and joint. So when imported the joint account is doubled up and you have to find and delete everyone transaction. Instead, I don't import her accounts and manually enter her separate account data. Need to filter accounts. Also noticed it used the wrong account number for IRS form but it was optional anyway. Navigation between areas of the return is okay, but when I go back to double check something, I can't jump back to where I left off.
Pros: Easy to prepare
Cons: Doesn't maximize refund, Hard to prepare, Hard to import documents
