Great PC and great buying experience. The 2 computers I bought have worked well. I really wanted the 4k screen. Windows 11 has been fine. The whole process has gone smoothly.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Though less than a year newer than my previous supposedly identical laptop, the operating system feels completely different, making it hard to set things up the way I was used to. Also, my previous laptop, though otherwise very similar, had metal keys that stayed clean and showed no wear despite considerable use, whereas this model has rubber keys which I'm sure will not wear as well. The most irritating thing, however, is that the start menu and method of finding out how to alter things to my satisfaction is so different from anything I've ever used before (and I've used a lot of different Windows boxes over the last 30 years) that setting things up has been a real hassle. Hopefully, once things ARE set up, I'll be satisfied with the thing, but that remains to be seen (and, I fear, after far longer spent setting things up than before). The one thing I DO LIKE is that the older model only had two USB ports, and since I use a wireless mouse, that meant only one was available, whereas this box has 3 ports, and an HDMI port, which I presume would be used to connect it to a huge external monitor. Not that I"m likely to use that, because the only reason I want a laptop is to have something with me when I'm on a trip, and of course I wouldn't be carting a huge monitor around with me under those circumstances.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I bought the Envy 17 and it came with problems and a noise inside the computer.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Nice laptop but wish the keyboard was better.

Overall performance is good for my purposes: mainly business related. I chose the HP because it has a large screen, a numeric keypad, was customizable and was priced well. Most of the negatives have to do with the keyboard.
> The power cord connects on the right side of the laptop (as many laptops do). I am right-handed and use a mouse, which bumps into the cord.
> To use the alternative functions of the top row of keys you have to hit the Fn key. Why not the SHIFT key like all of the other keys on the keyboard?
> It has a DELETE key but the INS key requires pressing SHIFT, which is a pain when you are doing lots of cutting and pasting. To use the SHIFT-INS you have to first turn off NUM LOCK which is a first class annoyance. I suppose I'll convert to CTRL-C, CTRL-X and CTRL-V but old habits die hard. Incidentally it would be nice if the NUM LOCK key had a light on it like, well, just about every other keyboard in the universe. I can't tell you how many times I have entered a bunch of numbers to find out that I've just been moving the arrows left all around. There IS a light on the mute key, which I like.
> When doing spreadsheet work you often need to press END and then an arrow key. Unfortunately the END key is nowhere near the arrow keys! (when NUM LOCK is on, which is my normal state)
> The alpha keys are not centered above the touch pad, so when your hands are resting on the home keys, the touch pad is not right between your hands. It just feels awkward.
> The power button is on the top row of the keyboard, closer to the middle than it should be. On every other laptop I've seen, the power button is at the extreme upper left or on the side of the laptop. I am constantly wondering if I might accidentally press it when hitting the nearby BKSP and DELETE keys.
